^^Huh? How are Europe not on top of their game? Sure, they play smaller venues than in the 80s, but they are still going strong, playing shows around the world and unlike the other classic bands mentioned they are not a revival act playing a variation of their greatest hits plus the one or two odd new songs. About 50% on every show consists of songs they have written since their reunion in '04. And people do enjoy those songs. So it's not like people are not interested in new songs. People are only not interested when the new songs don't measure up to the old ones or if the audience mainly consists of people, who only know the singles and don't care about the band otherwise.

What I meant is that Europe is only know for 'The Final Countdown' by the general public. Because of this people see them as a stadionrock band like Bon Jovi or Nickelback. Something you don't want if you are a progressive rockband. But that's something most people don't know. Same situation as for Twisted Sister. But I agree with what you say about new songs being good and appreciated.

The festival circuit is like the old club circuit. It is having it's day and then it will dissapear. So will all the bands that are currently playing it. KISS, Priest, Maiden, Crue, Whitesnake, Motorhead etc.
In 10 years all or most of the bands will be gone due to sickness, death, irrelevance.....Is that shocking or surprising? No, that's life.
One other note. When any of your favorite bands release that new, great album and tour, maybe they play 2 songs from it. The reaction of the new material is always the worst of all the songs. You hear all the standards wrapped up in a new tour name and backdrop. I've been in this game for 40 years. all of it is marketing. TS will play until we don't. As far as ticket prices we charge by far the lowest ticket prices of any classic band that I know of and put on by far, a much better performance then any of our peers. I wonder if the fans of the bands that we blow away ever wonder why their band is nowhere as good as we are? I wonder what their slamboards say? By the way, their are so many new markets opening up around the world, and we play so rarely, we could keep going on and on....

agree with a lot of this. a few years ago i saw whitesnake on tour for their new album at the time and i heard people complaining as we left that whitesnake played too many new songs, i think 4 total. i said to them you saw whitesnake on the FOREVERMORE tour, the new album at the time, if you wanted to hear more songs from the 80's you should have seen them then.
