Sad day today. Phil Kennemore from Y&T has lost his battle with lung cancer. Here's the band's statement and tribute to a good friend and great musician:

We first met Dave, Phil and Leonard, the guys from Y & T in 1982 in London, where they had seemingly come out of nowhere to tear up the legendary Marquee club a couple of weeks prior to our much hyped arrival. All we kept hearing about was this amazing band from the West Coast. We first played with them at the Reading festival on August 29th when we shared a bill with them (see the Reading Poster above).

This was the beginning of a long and enduring friendship. We became brothers, never rivals. We all loved watching the band from backstage because Y & T was as professional as it gets. The audience always came first. We did a segment of the Stay Hungry tour with them in 1985 and most recently, we have shared many bills every summer since 2003 all across Europe. I can tell you this about Phil, no matter how tired I was or how crazy the travel and performance conditions were, every time I saw Phil and Dave, it was like no time had passed. Phil had this huge smile and really great laugh. This trait may seem normal to many people but in our high level touring world, where everyone seems to have a bullshit game face, Phil didn't play that game.

I really know what Dave means about looking over to his left and now not seeing that reassuring presence of a great musician and true friend who lived through the both the music industry wars and the devastating health crisis that took his life.

Our thoughts and prayers to all of Phil's families; Blood, Band mates and the 'Worldwide Brotherhood of Musicians'

Chris (Captain Howdy) and I had long discussions about Y&T on our roadtrip from Oklahoma to Wichita. Phil was a tremendously talented musician, and the recent shows that we've seen them share the bill with Twisted, they play so solidly and passionately--we both agreed they were an excellent and often underrated group.

My thoughts are with all of Phil's friends, family, band members, fans and the entire Y&T family--when our Heavy Metal community experiences such loss, the sorrow is shared among SMFs and heavy metal devotees all over the world.

First Ronnie James Dio, now Phil Kennemore. There has been enough tragedy this year.
RIP both of you

This sucks. Y&T was, and still is, one of my favorite bands. Cancer blows. Rest in peace Phil.

I had the pleasure of knowing Phil for the past 5 years. He was the nicest guy. always went out of his way for you. Every show he gave 100 percent and never left a fan disappointed. He was rock and roll and he will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family . He will live on FOREVER

This is very sad news. My thoughts and prayers go out to Phil's family. I still remember going to see Dio at Long Beach Arena back in 1983 and this band I was not familiar with at that point was opening up called Y&T. Needless to day, they kicked ass and I was won over from that night. As soon as their set was over, I headed straight for the merchandise booth to grab a Meanstreak tour shirt. I've seen Y&T many times over the years since then (a couple of times with Twisted Sister) and they were always on the money. They were a great live band! Much like Twisted, I always felt that they were much better live than they were on their albums because no studio magic could capture that special energy that only a live show can provide. They never failed to put on a great show and they were always true to the fans. More importantly, they always seemed to be true to themselves as well.

That base line for "Barroom Boogie" is going thru my mind now! RIP Phil.
