Road Reporter Posts: 1729 Location: Baltimore, MD | All-- please keep Bret Michaels in your prayers. He has suffered a major brain hemorrhage and was recently upgraded from critical condition to "guarded" at this hour. He remains in the hospital but is now awake and talking, according to the associated press. Very sobering when something like this happens to someone so young! (Bret is 47)

Location: Graveyard BLVD. | I have been reading over the past week and had hoped he would recover from his original surgery. http://www.sleazeroxx.com/news10/0423bre.shtml This is so sad, I pray he recovers. His diabetes no doubt played an important roll on his post-op period and complications. Thanks for posting T! Armadillo - 2010-04-23 5:01 PM All-- please keep Bret Michaels in your prayers. Serious SMF Posts: 35 Location: TS Lighting Board/ Or monitor Board, or..... | Hey All, being a Paramedic for many years, I can tell you all that, this had nothing to do with his post op appendectomy, He has a bleed in his Brain Stem ( from what ive read) and if that truly is the case........................... ( the brain stem controls all you involuntary muscles ie; breathing, heart, etc) lets all hope and pray that it is NOT in the Brain Stem, and that he comes through with flying colors.

Location: Graveyard BLVD. | I heard he is able to talk now which is a wonderful sign. What I was concluding is that with the long duration of diabetes, vascular disease is correlated with delayed wound healing, potential for bloodclots, bleeding and infection setting patients like Bret up for post-op complications as most likely seen here. I'm only an RN {since 1985} not a doctor, but that has been my experience and has also been statistically proven. soullites - 2010-04-26 8:18 AM Hey All, being a Paramedic for many years, I can tell you all that, this had nothing to do with his post op appendectomy, He has a bleed in his Brain Stem ( from what ive read) and if that truly is the case........................... Road Reporter Posts: 1729 Location: Baltimore, MD | Bret has had a series of health issues for some time now so I'm deeply saddened but not surprised. He's got a long road of recovery in front of him. I didn't get the press this a.m.--the television reported that his speech is still slurred and he's still having a number of other issues. I've had a few patients with sub arachnoid bleeds and most had very poor prognoses. unfortunately all of them were very young. Every day we have is a gift-sometimes I take that for granted and it takes a sobering reminder such as this to keep me in check, so that I don't forget what is truly important in life: friends, family, loved ones--sharing experiences and living life to its fullest. and I do believe in the power of prayer (I'm not of any particular denomination anymore) so if it so moves you, add Bret to your prayers.
