Dee always claims on stage that the "popular" lineup is the original. We all know this is not the case.

Kinda like when he says "Under The Blade" is the first song he ever wrote. I asked him on Dee Speaks a few years ago and his answers conceded that it's not at all true. It's something like the first song that was written of all the songs we hear on the albums.

So at any rate...what is the ACTUAL original Twisted Sister lineup?

I could be wrong, and I'm sure someone will correct me...but I think it was:

Jay Jay, Eddie, Kenny Neill (bass), and Mel Anderson (drums)...that was like 1972?

Dee joined in 1976 I think....

Wait, here's more...

Pre-Dee period (1972–1976)

Twisted Sister was formed in December 1972 by guitarist Jay Jay French. In 1975, Eddie "Fingers" Ojeda,a former high school friend of French, joined as co-lead singer andsecond guitarist. He had previously recorded with a New York City bandcalled SPV.Kevin John Grace replaced Mel "Starr" Anderson on drums. Bass guitaristKenny Neill (Kenneth Harrisson-Neill) completed the lineup. The bandfollowed a glam rock direction, influenced by David Bowie, Slade, Mott the Hoople, Humble Pie, and New York Dolls. It played at local clubs without much success until 1976.

Club days (1976–1982)

In early 1976, Dee Sniderjoined the band as lead vocalist and principal songwriter. Afterreplacing drummer Grace with Tony Petri, the group took a heaviermusical direction, influenced by Motörhead, Black Sabbath, and Alice Cooper, but without abandoning its glam image.

! Although glam was out of fashion in those days, Snider's phenomenal abilities as frontman propelled the band to considerable local success. It broke attendance records at large halls in the Tri-State Regionand its growing fan base began to take the name "S.M.F.F.O.T.S.", forSick Motherfucking Friends Of Twisted Sister. Later shortened to"S.M.F." for "Sick Mother Fuckers." No record labelwas interested in signing the band, so in 1979 it released the single"I'll Never Grow Up Now" / "Under the Blade" on their own label,Twisted Sister Records, followed in 1980 by "Bad Boys (Of Rock &Roll)" / "Lady's Boy".Eddie Kramer produced both singles.

In this period, the group's membership changed. On October 31, 1978, Neill left the band, the band's roadie and friend, Mark "The Very Scary Animal" Mendoza, formerly bassist for The Dictators, replaced him. In December 1980, Petri also left for the Plasmaticsand was replaced briefly by Ritchie Teeter. Teeter, also formerly ofThe Dictators, was replaced in that band by Mel Anderson. In April1981, Teeter was replaced by "Fast" Joey Brighton, who was in turnreplaced by A.J. Pero from Cities, another unsigned band with local fame.

This lineup—Dee Snider, Jay Jay French, Eddie Ojeda, Mark Mendozaand A.J. Pero recorded four studio albums and perform numerous liveshows around the world.

Yeah we all know the history. The point is, why does Dee continuously make a point to say that this reformed lineup is the ORIGINAL, when it's clearly not. It's not like it's a secret as it's documented everywhere including their albums of lineup changes from day 73-87. I'm not mad or annoyed by any means. It's just a curious thing.

He's been stating for like 5 years now that other reunited bands have as few as 1 original 1 member while TS has all 5.

Motley Crue has all 4 guys...does Poison too? I'm sure there are some others.

Oh, Ok...sorry Jaysin....I thought you wanted an answer to the question "So at any rate...what is the ACTUAL original Twisted Sister lineup?" Now I'm confused....

I guess your question is kind of a rhetorical one then....I guess what Dee is kind of referring to would be like Axl Rose calling his new band "Guns and Roses"...what the fuck is that shit?

It would have been like Dee calling Widowmaker "Twisted Sister". It just wouldn't be right...right?

He says its the Original lineup because thats when the albums started and when they made it big.... Anything before that is a Mute point..

Hope that answers your question.

Yeah that's what I figure, but it's definitely a misleading fact especially for those who are unfamiliar with their history.

Imagine talking to someone younger who just started going to their shows. Perhaps they'd be "educating" their friend about the current reunited Twisted lineup up. Overhearing the people who are under the impression that no other musicians were before these 5 guys(this is what "original" means) you'd think they were pretty ignorant. To butt in the conversation and tell them they are mistaken as they've had several other members prior to these 5 they'd perhaps retort with "Dee even says it live, so why should I believe you?".

Didn't didn't actually happen, but it could easily arise.

I don't give a fuck that they are not the original members...it doesn't change the quality of their performance, musicianship, song quality.

Yea -- also Ill e-mail you or pm you or something when I can . They are slaming me big time at work -- ha s been real hard changing big motors etc being sick and under some really bad conditions , they had me soaking wet all night my first night back changing a big motor-- anyway ill try and comunicate more as soon as I get better and caught up a little here, even if it takes a couple or weeks - yea things can be tough here.-- But I so love The whole TS thing and all my great friends such as yourself , talk soon --- Jim / Ps to the other's- sorry to have gotten away from the subject, just wanted to say Hi to Jaysin quick-- I had been thinkin Tring to help the boyz a little etc -- I think what Dee ment was the TS band was still original in his eyes of they still are the same after many years shortly after he got in, they played bars back as far as the satillite lounge , but the real rockin bar days happened for years after that and they still are much the same now( ok not exactly ,but hey whos complaining?)-- Dees cool , and im pretty sure thats what he ment, as I sort of can see that from my experiance back at the bars, personally I dont think we should make to much out of it, you know sometimes peeps say things figuring people wont look at it under a microscope and all. -- at any rate isnt it so great TS lives on !!! - for that I sure feel fortunate - wow was that a good time !!!

Well five years is five years as far as drummers -- what can I say, most ofr TS the same-- Tring to help the guy and all. and for most of the serious bar days the band was pretty much the same except for that --- TS f-in Rocks --we should be happy , I thought. And thats cool that Joey reminded us of dates of records etc. Id remembered getting the first 45 and ep in the bars but the exact dates was hard for me to remember -- well done!

I thought that they didn't use the name Twisted Sister until Dee joined? Can't remember where I heard that at all. But if they did change it then, then it would be the original line up.
