Attention all S.M.F.’s,

Upon the recommendation of a dedicated S.M.F. by the name of (the real) Joe Rock (thank you, Joe for suggesting I do this), I want to take a moment to explain why you never find me visiting the TS slamboard. The answer is pretty simple: I obsess on negative postings.

Those of you who have seen me perform in the heyday will remember my obsession with getting people in the audience to react. I would spend entire shows searching out those in attendance who were not reacting and berate them endlessly until they either left, got into a fight with me or joined the “twisted celebration.” This was not an act. It is, was and still is my sickness. I would sacrifice entire shows--ignoring thousands of adoring fans--to go after one guy or girl who I felt was dissing me and the band.

When I go to a message board, I can read a thousand positive postings, but it will be the one negative slam that will stick with me for days after and occupy my mind. Why? I’m not sure. But it doesn’t make me feel good at all. And flame throwing assholes don’t deserve even a moment of my time. But I always give it to them.

Now back in the day, I thrived on that same anger and couldn’t wait for the next confrontation...but not anymore. After all those dysfunctional years, I’m enjoying being happy and well adjusted. But it doesn’t take much to set me off and bring me right back.

Now those of you who have seen me perform in recent years have witnessed none of that old Dee Snider hostility...and there have been more then a few people in attendance who weren’t “getting into it.” Well, in the past I would go out of my way to find those people in the crowd and tear them apart, but these days I don’t even bother to look for them and focus on the majority of you who are fired up to see the band. And I’m much happier this way.

But it’s not as easy to do that with the Slam Board. One has to read a posting to find out its contents and by the time I realize that a posting is negative, I’m sucked into the message and wasting valuable time and energy on people who don’t even deserve to be acknowledged. If I don’t read the negative messages, their mission has failed. The only way to achieve this is to not read any messages at all.

I’m sorry for that. I know you love me. I love you guys, too. There’s just no other way. I hope you understand.

Once a S.M.F., always a S.M.F.,

Dee Snider 8/06
