Location: Baltimore, MD | Well.... this is just my thoughts on this....
With the Metal Militia.... it was a charity benefit. There was no doubt in anyone's minds there, who was the biggest name and biggest draw. But you know, Anvil was a local fave, and had that special connection to the Metal Militia. Sort of a homecoming. A lot of times, bands will defer the top spot to the "home band." Example? When Y&T toured as Twisted's opener, they let Y&T headline when they played in their hometown.
And sometimes...it's for logistical reasons. (such as TS flying on an early plane the next day) The boys all drove in and drove home, so perhaps it was to allow them to get back on the road....who knows? The important thing is that a lot of money was raised to help the local folks in New Jersey with home repairs. The order of the night isn't a big thing.
I've seen a number of clubs put a band on last because they know many fans will not want to stay that late, but having the act play after, keeps the crowd engaged, sells drinks etc. |
