| I still see movies, read books and listen to music by people who have taken political stands that I find disturbing. I choose to ignore the noise and still enjoy the talent. People who say that entertainers should just shut up really are anti-American. We fight and die for the right to have opinions. That is the beauty of our democracy. The band members have divergent political opinions. We have not given anyone the right to use our music but I resent when politicians and their campaign managers 'steal" the music from us. No one ever contacted us. The proper thing to do is to contact the artist and ask permission. Had someone in the Paul Ryan camp bothered to show us respect and contacted us, we would have said, "thank you. but no" and that would have been the end of it.. That's how it is done. It's interesting that only Tea Party candidates have violated the law by putting our music in ads without so much as obtaining a legal license. Two years ago we had to stop the illegal use by two Tea Party candidates whose excuse was "they thought that the first 20 seconds were 'free". This was outrageous, let alone illegal. So much for the 'fine law abiding defenders of the Constitution"!!
For the record, the band members all support Gay marriaige rights and reproductive choices for women. Both of these positions are supported by most of our allies (Canada, Sweden, Argentina, Iceland, South Africa, Norway, Spain, Portugal and Belgium). The Republican platform in this regard however seems to be in line with Iran........just sayin' | |
