also ADELE released an album in 2011 and its already sold close to 8 million units in the united states. i know its not hard rock/metal but its proof people will buy music if it connects with enough people

I don't know about the numbers. There used to be an expression about, "shipped gold, returned platinum"- not to mention how the charts were a total fabrication back in the day and there is always a way to play with the numbers even with computers...

Sorry, but Adele's big hit sounds like a horrid dirge to me. I doubt she will be around as long as TS. Meanwhile there are truly great artists who can't get a major label deal and play small clubs while total hacks make it. Few artists can really impress me as I'm very fussy about music. I think TS is very impressive and awesome-new album or not.
