Location: Baltimore, MD | My friends and I all did it through 12-step programs....through Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. No dues or fees....many of us detoxed on our own since the majority of us were homeless, unemployed, broke, etc. The few more severe cases did it through local emergency rooms if they didn't have the money or insurance to go through a detox program. Many larger cities now have subsidized programs to help those who can't afford an inpatient program but need one, although many have waitlists.
No special knowledge here on my part. I just followed the advice that was given to me and asked for the help of others when I couldn't do it alone. No magic tricks but plenty of miracles. It is sometimes very hard for me to go to the TS shows because I can smell the alcohol when everyone around me is drinking beer, and it does make me jones for it, but I just promise myself that no matter what happens, I will not drink or use that day....and stick to it.
I am very grateful to all the friends I've made through the TS slamboard--so many good people out there, and I just love how we come from every walk of life imaginable, and yet this one common bond brings us all together, from all over the country, for one purpose: to ROCK OUT to TS! love it
