This is a tough call for me. I've seen all except Led Zeppelin, and I enjoyed all for one reason or another, But I'm going with Metallica circa 1985/86.

Seeing I have seen over 3000 shows ( between bars to festivals ) I have seen many many bands.

In no particular order - and for different reasons.

Iron Maiden ( and last tour - when they did PHACHENDALE - best live song I have ever seen them in 53 times live )

Screaming Cheetah Wheelies - best non metal rock band of all time in my opinion

And thier close friend DAMON JOHNSON. Solo, with Brother Cane - and now I cant wait to see him in Slave to the System.
.
Ramstchein - -dont laugh - they are fucking entertaining as hell

4 Non Blondes - they were the best female fronted hard rock band I ever saw live. Linda doesnt want to tour anymore - such a shame. Morpheine and Chocolate is still one of my top 10 favorite live songs ever

TS - but you knew that already

Ronnie James Dio - because of who he is, the respect that he commands - and at 64 - still sings better than most 20 year olds today

Rob Halford Solo - yes - solo - I think his last 2 tours he did with Jambo, Metal Mike, Pat and the others were his best material ever. I really dont need to see the Priest reunion over and over again. The new album is good - but Resurection was amazing.

Anything with Ripper - be on the lookout for him live. He did great duty on Priest while Rob was riding the hobby horse. Then with Iced Earth he tore ass!!!!! Beyond Fear album is out soon - and he will probably tour with DIO - you need to see him. He might be the future of metal!!!!

Queensryche back in the 80s - fucking hey yeah!!!!!! And beleive it or not - after seeing them a few times and yahning - this last tour they got it back. Cant wait to see them do the new mindcrime.

and finally ( there are many other great live bands I have seen - and you are gonna laugh at this - DEE WONT - he has sang with them ) is POISON.
Those boys do something very very few bands today do. They respect thier fans. They ask what thier fans want. They give it to them. They invite kids on stage ( Green Day does that too - so I dont want to forget them ) They keep audiences in line. They let fans go to future shows for free with thier stubs. and I think they still have fun playing live.

Maybe I will do a part 2 - gotta go play some online poker.

I too have seen several hundred shows, and I have to say the best performances aside from TS are....

Iron Maiden - in general great performers, but in particular the World Slavery Tour of 84-85 in which Twisted opened

Triumph - particularly Thunder Seven tour 84 and Sport of Kings 86

Rush

Metallica

yep - totally dropped the ball on Rush and Triumph there - - Damn I wish that that Triumph could put thier bad tudes aside and reform. Thats one of those tours I would pay anything to see. RICK EMMIT - suck it up.

On the topic of 3 man bands - and from Long Island - we forgot ZEBRA - -Randy Jackson and the boys - not only sound great still - they do Led Zep better than Led Zep.

Supertramp - now thats the reunion tour of a lifetime for me - too bad its never going to Happen. Roger would rather have no career and occasionally tour with Ringo Star - than to sell out a worldwide reunion tour - go figure

After thinking about this for awhile and seeing some of the other posts I realized the best (and worst, they weren't always consistent) I've ever seen was...

The Ramones!

there are hundreds are bands, I tried to pick the ones that were closest to TS in spirit, age,etc.... But 1500 plus shows and I never saw the Ramones. One of only a handful of bands that I regret not ever seeing Hanoi Rocks and Led Zep are the 2 besides the Ramones that come to mind.

RED JEFF ,

Happen to see Ripper with Iced Earth at the Starland, INCREDIBLE, I think his voice suits that band to a T! Only thing it was kinda funny seeing him do his Halford moves singing Earth songs. lol

Triump - Another great and forgotten band. One more - Mahogany Rush.

4 non blondes, saw then open for Aero when Aero had a decent fanclub. Very close seats and yes they were a great live band. Shame.

I think Roger getting back with Floyd would be the tour of the century. IMHO

Too bad we could only choose one. Saw many of them back in the day. Bon Jovi is a close second. Third is Van Hagar (5150-Live Without a Net, I'm on it).

Hell yes!

There are frontmen and then there are FRONTMEN.

Jim Dandy commanded the stage and the crowd.
He never really received the recognition from the press he deserved
but I do put him pretty high on the standings.

I've seen beside TS, Kiss, Aerosmith, and Van Hagar. I'd say Van Hagar was the better of the other 3 concerts.
Bon Jovi, Metallica, Van Halen, and Cinderella are all concerts I'd love to see.

OH MAN what I would have given to have seen Queen...

Alas...
I saw most of those bands in the mid 80's...the only disappointment for me was Black Sabbath reunion tour.
All others were very good shows. Love seeing Maiden for the elaborate sets and Judas Priest was awesome. But believe it not, there were two shows that really stood out for me. Both in teeny weeny tiny clubs in Providence, RI at a little place called the Living Room. (both locations.) Joan Jett really rocked out. what a blast! And I also saw King Diamond there--I went knowing almost nothing about King Diamond, and became a fan after that gig. Another great small club band--Fugazi--this was during my punk/crossover days.

There were definitely bands that were better in the arenas and others that rocked out in the small clubs. Personally, I prefer the small clubs any day of the week over an arena. I don't care how many fireworks, whistles, bells or robots a band has, there's some about "feeling the sweat that flies off"...ya, you know what I mean, that just makes the club experience the best. Those of you who have seen Bent Brutha know whut I'm talkin' about.

And another great show? not metal, but David Byrne. Most fun I've ever had at a show.

ps. got my plane ticket today for vegas...whoo hoo.

on the topic of Cinderella - - they are touring with POISON this summer. Unlike the usual Poison summer tours - Cinderella will have a full set. Ive seen Cinderella at thier best and thier worst. In the last few years - Tom Keifer really got his glory back. Just like RATT - they really have a lot of blues influences - they were overshadowed by thier clothes.

Worst Cinderella show was at the New Haven Collesium - - Cinderella Headlined ( 1988 ) half the band was sick - show should have been cancelled. Kip Winger was pretty horrible also. But the opening band made the night worth it - an up and coming band that just blew me away ( hint hint ) Bulletboys. Only heard 1 song from them before that night - and I went and bought thier TAPE the next day. Live they kicked ass. Dont take this negative against Cinderella - it was their off night - I have seen many - saw Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage where almost every member of every band was sick - but they couldnt cancel the show as it was thier Halloween gala.

Whats interesting about this thread - is that we can open each others eyes to other bands that many have forgotten.
If you want a great band - Go check out Marillion - but with the original singer FISH. They were basically what Genesis would have been had Peter Gabrial not left the band. Really hard rocking progressive stuff. ( as was the original Genesis ) When FISH left to go solo - he recruited an amazing guitarist named Janic Gerrs. And we know the story from there - his personal friend Bruce Dickinson asked him to join Iron Maiden when Adrian left. When Iron Maiden reformed - Janic Stayed and they know play with 3 Guitarists.

Here are some more Twisted opening Bands -- Dokken ( Don cant sing anymore ) Fastway ( Nassau Collesium )

Totally love Marrillion w/Fish. One almost regret I have is missing them when they played NYC the same night as TS was playing (I believe Love is for suckers tour) and again I believe the venue was the theater at MSG. Hard to say I made a mistake but I've seen TS since and Fish left Marrillion.
Totally disagree with you on Bulletboys. One of worst bands I've ever seen. (Sundance RIP)

This is a really tough one as I've seen hundreds of shows. There are definately a few shows that stand out above the rest.

Alice Cooper
Metallica (Justice For All...) with Queensryche (Mindcrime) opening up
Metallica-Guns 'n Roses-Motorhead at the Rose Bowl
Kiss at the KROQ Weenie Roast (warm up gig for the Reunion Tour)
Black Sabbath (with Rob Halford on vocals) opening for Ozzy "farewell" show (Halford singing for Sabbath was as good as a wet dream!)
David Lee Roth's first solo tour with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan
Dio on the Holy Diver tour
Black Sabbath on the Reunion tour with Ozzy

All of these shows and more by themselves were fantastic but bands that have been consistantly great every time I saw them would of course be Twisted Sister at the top of the list and Judas Priest would have to be next in line. Metallica have been consistantly great every time I've seen them as well. I'd also have to put King's X right up there, too but you have to see them headline with their own sound man because when they open up the sound man always makes them sound like shit.

I agree, as I saw Augeri back in the day, he was on a band that was on Epic records. Can't recall name but they were great. But as good as he is, I'd still rather see the original.

Humble. Fucking. Pie.

I think it was '72, the year that 'Rockin' The Fillmore' came out. That band was the first band that I had seen that took rock from hippy-land into putting on a kickass show as a band. Marriott was an amazing singer, Frampton (love him or hate him) rocked out in that band, and Jerry Shirley and Greg Ridley were an awesome rhythm section.

As was HP's custom, they kicked the tour off in Philly (the first American city they'd ever played as Small Faces), and they ripped the place apart.

It was at the Spectrum in Philly, and J. Geils and the Allman Brothers opened the show. I think the ticket cost 6 bucks.

My first TS live show. And absofreakinloutely.... that concert cost me 6 months in Training School (I had court that day and skipped out to travel to the show, the judge was unamused) and was worth every damn minute of the extra time I got for going Dee's energy, shit the whole damn band, the interaction with the fans..... few bands I have EVER seen come even close to putting on an actual SHOW like Dee and the gang did that night. They blew Iron Maiden out of the water IMHO... and I LOVED Iron Maiden and had barely heard of TS. I was an SMF when I left that show for sure.

Alice Cooper always puts on a hell of a show, only thing is I've come to know what to expect. I love the feeling of going to see someone I haven't seen before and just getting blown away! I think the best show I ever saw was Accept, I'll never forget UDO swinging in on that wrecking ball! Balls to the Wall!

I'd have to give Judas Priest a close second though! And I agree with whoever said Poison, I've always said they may not be great musicians, but they're fun! And their concerts reflect that.

Well, after some thought about this, I would have to say I really loved seeing WASP and KI$$. Guess it depends on what genre in general. If I am talking Punk & FUN.. then it's hands down Murphy's Law with Madball a close second. Oh the list is endless....lol..

Well, after some thought about this, I would have to say I really loved seeing WASP and KI$$. Guess it depends on what genre in general. If I am talking Punk & FUN.. then it's hands down Murphy's Law with Madball a close second. Oh the list is endless....lol..

“Society is like a stew. If you don't stir it up every once in a while then a layer of scum floats to the top.”

I tried hard to keep the list as related to TS as I could. I second the Murphy's law call. Like the PI-ALPHA NU toga part up at SUNY New Paltz, or the gig on my front lawn with 500 people and 20 kegs... ahh to be young again.

Out the choice above I'd have to say Iron Maiden... but even they pale into insignificance under the might of a 'Strapping Young Lad' live performance...
