I came home from work and Dee had been sun bathing in the garden and got bubble gum stuck in his fur right next to his eye, I pulled most of it off but I have a chunk I can't remove. I can't use solvent's next to his eye, his fur is too short & dangerous to cut and I can't really freeze it being so close to his eye, Have you or anyone got any idea's of how I can get the bubblegum out off dee's fur??

hmm, I agree the vet is the best option, too dangerous to shave close to the eye, could attract insects\dirt etc if its not got rid of soon, good luck!

I can't shave it- he would NEVER sit still for that- I tried ice cube's, but his mouth was faster then my hand- so I now have to freeze a fresh box of ice cubes, but today for his stubborness...I'll have to give him a shower (in the garden) & try again. Unfortunately- it looks even MORE smeared today, but if I can wear him out after he has finished eating my towel, maybe I could try again with the ice cubes.

Jeeez! I I never thought about insects EWE!- That's made me even MORE determine coz my vet is extremely expensive and far away and last time I took Ojeda to the vet (who is much smaller then Dee) I can sense that the vet was VERY wary of Ojeda, and was obviously on his guard to run away when Ojeda turned his head to see what he was up to (Ojeda was only getting his dew claws trimmed)...Can you imagine what the vet would be like with Dee?- coz this dog is like MARK MENDOZA- muscle, hair and teeth!!

Hey Limes,

Never a dull moment in that house is there? Ice cubes are the way to go and if you are having trouble with keeping his head still:

1) use the gentle leader head collar I suggested a long time ago and hold the lead ring down on your knee while applying the ice or

2) wrap a kitchen dish towel around the back of his neck and over and around his muzzle with the two ends meeting under his chin or

3) have a second person (like Pete, not the kids) hold the back of his jaw in the crook of his right arm while applying light pressure on his back with the back of his left arm while the left hand is grasping the right wrist firmly. This gives control of the head and body, although I have had a female Rott back out of it while we were trying to artifically inseminate her.

You can then use a clipper (or beard trimmer - poor Pete) to get the remainder off.

Good Luck and Happy Fourth of .... Oh, never mind.

Hit the back of his head with a saucepan, shave his eyebrows while he's sparked out. Job done!

sorted! lmfao!

Dee is fine now...but he now has a massive pink bump on his head (jk)- Ice cubes anda tired dog pinned down with a smelly extra long sock over his mouth worked fine - the sock never survived to see another day tho LOL!
