Hi, Everyone! I would just like to give all you SMF's a hearty shout out from the greatest metal show that NEVER happened. I have clients in Mexico so when I saw this concert advertised we all got VIP tickets for it and I made my travel plans accordingly. I've been down here all week, actually, as I did some work earlier and planned to rock out at the show on the weekend.

Well, that's not going to happen. The festival was canceled by the Mexico Governor, Eruviel last week. In that time there was chatter about finding a new venue for it and whatnot. The general consensus in the rocker community down here is that it is just political bullcrap. The town where the venue is located is quite conservative and I've spoken to some other locals (non-metalheads, obviously) who share such old-school mindsets about the rock concerts bringing in the violence, the drugs, the Satanism . . . you know, all the good stuff, haha.

Another state about 2 hours from Mexico City is Queretaro. Even there this is big news. Queretaro, though, is even more conservative and do not allow ANY rock concerts. Someone screwed it up a few years back and freaked them all out. Wanna know who? No, not Mayhem, or Slayer, or even anything at all metal. It was . . . . ROD STEWART. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Yeah, they got freaked out when there was a Rod Stewart concert and they closed ranks immediately.

Anyway, let me tell you this . . . the advertising and promotion for the Hell and Heaven fest is AMAZING here. It is painted on concrete walls and on signs and busses. Seriously, it is massive. It is the best promoted event that never happened. There is a great bunch of people here who love rock and I see them in the street and they are all beautiful and true people and I wish I could be drinking beer and banging heads with them in front of Dee and the boys tonight, but instead I'll be going with my crew to a rock and roll swapmeet where there are a bunch of vendors selling endless bootleg goods and such. Should be fun.

I'll try and get some pics of the painted concrete signs. They are really cool.

Anyway, my name is Gunnar and I'm a longtime SMF.
I live in Los Angeles but travel often.
I hope to get to know some of y'all soon.

God bless you all!
Gunnar

I heard the news earlier this week about the cancelation. Definitely messed up. Sounds like you're at least making the best of it.

Mexican metalheads are the BEST! I'm sorry they got denied a great experience. I hope TS will come back sometime and have better luck the next time. I did get a few TS shirts for about 5 bucks a piece at the local swapmeet, so that was coolm
