The Under the Blade Remix CD |

Hello, I am new here so sorry if this has been posted before. I had a question about the Under The Blade Album.... We all know the original mix was made when the album was recorded under Secret Records in 1982. That Mix was released on CD and DVD(with a bonus concert) in a really cool package. But in 1985, the album was REMIXED. There have been some import CD's that claim to have that album mix on CD. My question, when the TS catalog was released by Spitfire back a few years ago, they had a version of Under the Blade come out, was that the 82 Secret version or was it the 85 remix? I am trying to see if the 1985 remix was ever released on CD. Finally, the remix had "Ill Never Grow Up Now" Was this the original single version that came out even before Rough Cuts or was it remixed as well for the 85 release? Sorry about all the questions, I am just hoping someone can help me out, thanks!

Most of the versions (previous to the anniversary edition with the DVD) were the '85 remix. I can say that every version that I've seen/listened to that contains "I'll Never Grow Up, Now" on it, is the remixed version from '85. It's a pretty safe bet that if you see "I'll Never Grow Up, Now" on the track listing, it's going to be the remix from '85. You can also tell form the cover art. If the Twisted Sister logo and "Under the Blade" album title are printed in yellow, it's the '85 remix. The original version had the logo and title printed in blue. It's also a different picture. You can see both here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Blade As for "I'll Never Grow Up, Now", I'm pretty sure that was remixed for the '85 version as well. It's the same recording from the original single as far as I know but it was remixed so it doesn't sound the same sonically. Hope that helps you out. Stay Twisted!

Band Posts: 130 | The '85 re-mix of UTB included the song and version of "I'll Never grow Up Now" that was on the first single that we released. I don't believe that we remixed that song from the original Eddie Kramer mix on the single. it was a bonus track that was added on as it was from the '79 single. The Eagle Rock dvd/cd contains the Pete Way mix from 1983. Among collectors, this is the desirable one. The band, however , wasn't crazy about it and re mixed the LP for the Atlantic version in '85. I hope this helps.

Band Posts: 130 | It seems that the fans all think (those who comment anyway) that the original mix was better. The band never liked it and felt that it was no where near heavy enough which is why Mendoza re-mixed it. It has always been interesting to me that fans really loved the original. I think it's a romantic connection to the record. Most bands don't have the same romantic connection to an album. Most bands, no matter how big they are. bands think think that nothing is ever good enough. Ive met bands who have had many multi platinum albums and have been told that, in their opinion, the albums all suck. I own some of them and love them. That is the most shocking.

Nearly A Band Member Posts: 717 Location: Chicago | You're probably correct Jay Jay. (As always! LOL!) I personally prefer the original mix of "Under the Blade" because it sounds more raw. I do see where you're coming from. With that being said, I much prefer the recordings on "Still Hungry" over "Stay Hungry". I find "Still Hungry" to be much heavier sounding. I always felt that "Stay Hungry" was way too polished and radio friendly. I was honestly a bit disappointed with it the first time I listened to it back in 1984 after living with "You Can't Stop Rock and Roll" on my turn table constantly since the day that one came out. It just sounded thin compared to "YCSRNR". It obviously worked for the masses and was a huge success for you guys so that's great. Personally, I still think your best sounding record is still "You Can't Stop Rock and Roll", though. It's got such a great heavy sound. Just my personal opinion for what it's worth. With that said, I still don't think any of the TS studio albums have effectively captured the power that you guys have live. I'll take a great live recording over the studio version any day. Nobody can match you guys live.

I prefer the original mix though because I enjoy the very raw almost garage sound of it. I understand though if thats not really what you and the rest of the band were aiming for why this is not the mix the band prefers.
