How many of you still listen to this album? I rarely do. I prefer the original 1984 recording, despite the band hating the sound of that record. I wish they'd used the studio time to record some of the tracks that didn't make the Stay Hungry album instead. Like 'What's Love Without You', 'Death From Above', "Prime Motivator' etc.

When I listen to these songs, I more often than not pull out "Still Hungry". "Don't Let Me Down" is awesome on "Still Hungry". That's the most improved song of the bunch by far. It's so much heavier. I think "Stay Hungry", "WNGTI", "Burn in Hell" and "SMF" are all better as well. I do like the way Dee sings "The Price" much better on "Stay Hungry" but I like the guitar sound and production for the music more on "Still Hungry". To be completely honest, I hated the production on "Stay Hungry" the first time I heard it back in 1984. Don't get me wrong. I loved the songs. I just hated the production. After "You Can't Stop Rock n Roll", "Stay Hungry" sounded so thin. I still remember the first time I heard it as clear as day. I picked up the "We're Not Gonna Take It" 12" UK single a week or so before the album came out. I was so pumped for the album after "YCSRNR" and couldn't wait to hear it. My first reaction was complete disappointment to be honest. After the album came out, it grew on me and I loved the songs but never liked the production. I still think "YCSRNR" is by far their best album. Just my opinion.

As for recording new material, we'd all love that but that doesn't sound like it's going to happen. With that said, I was thrilled that they recorded some of the old club days songs on "Still Hungry". "Come Back", "You Know I Cry" and "Plastic Money" were worth the price of admission alone. All 3 of those songs are better than anything from the "Stay Hungry" demos. Again, just my opinion.

I didn't like the drum changes on "Still Hungry," but I like "S.M.F." better than the original. Is the remaster of "Stay Hungry" good?

Some good points, and yes the production on YCSRNR was amazing, and still sounds great today. I never hated the sound of Stay Hungry as much as I did on Come Out And Play and Love Is For Suckers. It's a shame Bob Ezrin couldn't have produced COAP (as mentioned in Dee's book), he would have sorted that album out. Whilst we're on the subject of production, personally I think that Twisted Christmas was terrible. The guitars are too muddy, and the bass and drums are lost in the mix. I guess we all have our preferences.

But back to Still Hungry, those songs had been recorded once, whether you like the production or not, I would have just rather heard material that hadn't been recorded, whether they're weaker songs or not. I can't see them ever going back into the studio to record an entire album again, so just feel it was a bit of a waste. I'm just a demanding fan that's never happy I guess :-)
