Wish I could, but I had some difficulties obtaining a visitor visa in time. Very disappointed.....let's hope for another time, then!

We (me and my wife) had also started to make plans for that show but in the end we figured it would cost us simply too much so we had to let it go

So all I can do is wait patiently for their first indoor show in Germany since 1986 (which will most likely never happen) or a Christmas concert in NYC.

Yes! I'm going! Just got my Visa yesterday! Now I just need to get a ticket. That's the first thing I will do when I get to Moscow!

Yeah! That damn Visa is a pain in the ass... I also almost didn't get it, as I couldn't give up my passport earlier! If it wouldn't have been for TS I would have said, fuck them, let them stay behind the iron curtain, I will go there once they catch up with times. But I'm glad now that I just tried. It's a shame you can't make it!

Hi Patrick,

I'm a little bit jealous actually but since it is too late for us to go now I hope that you'll have a great time at a historical show. Anyway, here's some information I got from my Russian friend/tape trader when we started to make plans some weeks ago, maybe they are of use/interest for you:

Here's what my friend wrote to me:

(just in case this is the airport you'll be flying into):
"Moscow-Vnukovo is approximately 20 km outside Moscow, which would be approx. 45 km away from the city center. So not bad really. A taxi transfer would cost somewhere around 30 Euro, otherwise there is public transportation.

I'll do some research to find the best hotel price for you. Hotels in Moscow are ridiculously expensive, so we'd have to find some good deal.

The venue is pretty well located not far from the city center. There is a metro station in a 10-minutes walking distance.

The venue holds 3,500 people. It is actually a huge hangar but with excellent PA system. Been there a few times and the sound is always really good.

The tickets for the show are still available. The general admission floor ticket costs 45 Euro. Then there are seats in the VIP area. Now hold on to your seat...tickets range from 62 Euro to 300 Euro, which is crazy if you ask me."

That's about all I can supply info-wise, have a great time. Oh by the way, don't expect any street-, Metro- or whatever signs in English. A colleague of mine told me that it's still all in Cyrillic.

Take care and stay twisted

Yeah! Of course it is... but going by what you have to do to get a Visa you would think there is still an iron curtain! It's easier getting into Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand and so on, than to get into a supposedly almost european country! You need pictures, an invitation, travel insurance, have to register yourself once you get to your destination, have to de-register yourself before leaving and so on.... germans have to show their paycheck, proof of residency in their country and so on! On top of the flight, which did cost 180 €, I had to pay another 150 € to get that Visa. It's ridiculous really! It only segregates them from the rest of the world. I only need to fill out an online form to go to the USA.

Hey there! Yeah! Twisted Sister and Moscow is a cool combination! Really looking forward to seeing the city! Thanks for your infos! I'm going to Domodedowo airport though.
Wow, street and metro signs in Cyrillic sounds like a bit of a pain in the ass... had a problem in Greece already! But I hope I will manage. Does your friend know if the tickets are only available at the venue or is there some other place more central to buy tickets?

Hi Patrick,

e-mailed my friend this morning and here's his answer:

"Hello xxxxxxx,
I don't think the show is anywhere close to being sold out, so I guess the easiest way for your friend will be to purchase ticket at the doors. I've never seen a show in Moscow where you would not be able to get a ticket - they always squeeze in as many people as physically possible

Cheers
xxxxxxx"

Sounds like you don't need to be concerned about not getting a ticket, huh ?

If you'd like to know anything else I can find out for you just let me know.

Take care, have a safe trip.

Yay! Went to Moscow arena today to get my ticket. Now that I have the ticket I found a non kyrillic website to order tickets: http://www.kontramarka.ru/en/tickets/twisted-sister-moskva-klub-arena-moscow-270370/performance.html# and it appears like you could even print out your tickets, kinda typical... I'm just hoping now that I got the one I wanted, general standing in front... Im a bit worried as the woman didnt speak any english. I got Танцпартер for 2000, but checking out the website I see there are 2 kinds of Танцпартер and on this computer here the Java seating map doesnt work.

Did some sightseeing today, first by bus and then all by walking and the city is pretty cool! Lots of awesome buildings, bars, restaurants. I really like it. Glad I tried for that damn visa after all.

Not all EU countries require a VISA--didn't need one for Greece or Finland, but Russia they told me it would take at least 4 weeks, and despite a last ditch attempt, I couldn't expedite it. Russia is still one of the tougher places when it comes to visas, and that's from the person at TraVisa, they deal with this every day!

Enjoy Patrick--it's going to be an INCREDIBLE concert--mark my words!!! Sorry I can't be there to join you.

regards,
T

^^Yeah! It was a last ditch attempt for me too... I came home from Athens on wednesday, turned in the passport on thursday (they said it would take at least 10 days to get the Visa, if I would get it), got the Visa 12 days later on tuesday, got my passport returned on wednesday and flew to Moscow on friday. I had booked my flight already in April, but couldn't do anything regarding the visa earlier, as I was constantly travelling and couldn't risk them keeping my passport forever. I hear now though there are talks to get rid of visas for Russia, maybe as early as october.

Yeah! I know they're incredible... they have been all the 14 times I saw them before. ;-)

The main problem is that Russia is not in EU (like Finland or Greece) - they are in Europe, but not European Union.

HOW WAS THE SHOW GUYS? ANYONE WHO WAS THERE?

Hi Urosh

By my watch, it is before noon....which means right about now, they are at the venue to meet the techs and begin the setup for the sound check. oh is this killing me. to be sitting here in Helsinki, just a short few hours flight away....and know that they are playing tonight and I am SOOOO close but can't get into the Country...heartache!

Not sure exactly when they take the stage tonight GUESSING it will be 2200 hrs or so, the shows out here seem to put them on late.

Patrick....I am leaving the report in your trusted hands....enjoy every moment my friend!

Yeah, what can I say? Moscow got rocked and the european tour is over! Unfortunatly I'm not a man of that many eloquently spoken words as Terry. In short (I might add some more when I get home) there was no "Whole lotta Rosie" today, but otherwise the same songs. Mark was a bit unhappy with his amp and laid into the poor soundguy on the right... at one point it kinda looked like he would walk around the mixing desk and strangle the poor man (Terry, what did u say about not getting Mark angry?). Mark and Jay Jay held some conference during play, where (I assume ) he was pouring out his heart regarding that amp/sound/whatever situation. We also found out that there is quite a lot russion blood running through Twisted Sister (Jay Jay and Dee). Dee had a go at the seated people on the balcony, asking them whether they were handicapped or just there to take a shit. Some guy in the front had a couple of rolls of toilet papers with him (don't ask me why), Dee asked him to hand it to him and proceeded to shoot some toilet paper rolls up the balcony. In the end all the roadies where asked on stage to get their round of applause. I got some videos and pictures. I will post them soon!

What a day! First seeing Twisted Sister live and then taking a stroll at night on the madly lit red square. It can't get that much better! Okay, gotta get off the computer now.

Russia Rocks!!! The show was super! General sucess for the first TS show in Russia ever (HELD ON MONDAY). The music was super and the audience was ready to rock. Everybody knew the lyrics and stuff.

TS come again! We love you! Hope you like it in Russia.

P.S. There are gonna be some fun pics like Dee Snider running around in "Ushanka" and the Russian national flag...

In fact for me is easier to get to Thailand or Viet Nam than to Austria. I did the same (pics, insurance, etc) as you did, when I went to Wien last year. And a Visa was 80 Euros. + tickets of course. Talking about iron curtain, Snider still thinks that we don't speak english here in Russia. By the way the gig was great yesterday. They should have visited us earlier, no f'''ing curtains. ROCK'N'ROLL everybody!!

I guess the bottom line is that Visas suck! Period! And some countries jack up Visa requirements just in spite!

Yeah! He does! And well... most of the people I encountered didn't really speak any english! Of course there were also exceptions though!
